Cervical screening — what’s changed
Australia’s cervical screening programme changed in 2017 — the old 2-yearly Pap smear is now a 5-yearly HPV test. Since July 2022, all eligible women aged 25-74 can choose self-collection with a simple swab in a private room at the clinic. Both options are bulk billed.
Choosing the right contraception
Our female GPs help you choose the best contraception based on your lifestyle, health, and family planning goals:
- Long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) — Implanon (3 years), Mirena IUD (5-8 years), copper IUD (5-10 years)
- Short-acting — combined oral pill, mini-pill, vaginal ring, depot injection
- Emergency contraception — same-day appointments
- Permanent — referrals for tubal ligation or vasectomy
Gynaecology FAQ
Do I need a referral?
No — all gynaecology services at Juniper are GP-led, no specialist referral needed. We refer to gynaecologists for procedures requiring hospital theatre.
How private is the consultation?
Fully confidential. Consultations are with a single GP in a private room. Self-collection cervical screening is performed in privacy with the GP outside the room.
How long does an IUD insertion take?
Insertion takes about 15 minutes; allow 30-45 minutes for the full appointment. We schedule a quick check-up 6 weeks later.
What about menopause hormone therapy?
Our female GPs prescribe and monitor menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) including patches, gels, oral and combined therapies — with personalised risk-benefit assessment.
