Health Services in Point Cook
Juniper Avenue Medical Centre is a general practice at 2 Juniper Ave where GPs and practice nurses look after babies, children, adults and older patients. Our health services in Point Cook cover everyday illness, vaccines, screening, family planning, women’s health, long-term conditions, mental health, skin concerns and minor procedures.
This page explains how the practice runs and how billing works. Further down, every service is grouped into nine areas, and each area has its own overview page.
How healthcare services in Point Cook work at Juniper
Most care starts with a standard GP consultation. Your doctor takes a history, examines you where needed and agrees a plan with you: a test, a prescription, a referral to a specialist or allied health professional, or a review in a few weeks. Practice nurses work alongside the doctors.
If you have several concerns, or need a care plan, ask for a longer appointment when you book. Our practice information page covers the everyday policies.
Pathology and phone consultations
Dorevitch Pathology collects inside the building, Monday to Friday 8:00am to 3:00pm and Saturday 9:00am to 12:00pm, so tests your GP orders during those hours need no separate trip. See on-site pathology for details.
Phone consultations are available for problems that suit them. Reception can explain booking and fees, and the doctor calls on the day of the booking, though not at a set time. The clinic also sends SMS reminders when preventive care falls due.
Mixed billing and what is bulk billed
Juniper is a mixed billing practice. Bulk billing applies with every doctor for these patients and services:
- Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) card holders
- Pensioners over 65
- Childhood and adult immunisations
- GP care plans
Other consultations may carry an out-of-pocket fee. Each practitioner sets their own fees and billing differs slightly between doctors, so check the profile of the GP you plan to see on our doctors page. Fees are paid on the day by card or EFTPOS, and the Medicare rebate can go straight back onto your card. A $30 fee applies for late cancellations and missed appointments, as the fees page explains.
MyMedicare registration
MyMedicare is a free, voluntary registration that formally links you with the general practice you usually attend. The Department of Health explains that registered patients get continuity with their practice and access to longer Medicare-funded telehealth consultations with their GP. Anyone with a Medicare card or a DVA Veteran Card can register.
You can sign up with Juniper through our MyMedicare registration page, and the My Health Record page explains the national online summary of your health information.
Choosing the right service page
If you already know what you need, go straight to its page. Vaccines sit under immunisation services, and screening tests and general check-ups under preventive healthcare. Contraception, pregnancy and fertility belong to family planning, while menopause, PCOS and period problems are covered by women’s health.
Diabetes, kidney disease and osteoporosis sit under chronic disease management, and heart checks and breathing tests under cardiac and lung care. Unsure? Book a standard appointment and describe the problem.
When the clinic is not the right place
For chest pain, severe difficulty breathing, signs of a stroke or a serious injury, call 000. If the clinic is closed and the problem cannot wait for the next day, the after-hours service 13 SICK (13 7425) offers home visits and phone consultations.
Common questions
Can I see a doctor without an appointment?
Walk-in appointments are available with a private fee. Booking ahead by phone on (03) 9395 5566 or when you book online lets you choose the time and the doctor.
What if I do not have a Medicare card?
Patients not registered with Medicare pay $70 for a standard consultation, paid on the day by EFTPOS. No cash is kept on the premises.
Will reception give me my test results over the phone?
No. Results are not given out by reception over the phone. You are usually notified by text, or by phone if a result is urgent, and you make an appointment to go through it with your doctor.
