Bulk Billing in Point Cook
Juniper Avenue Medical Centre is a mixed billing clinic. Some groups of patients are bulk billed with every doctor, and other consultations may have an out-of-pocket fee. If you are searching for bulk billing in Point Cook, this page sets out exactly who is bulk billed here and what everyone else can expect to pay.
What bulk billing means
Services Australia explains that bulk billing means you do not pay for the service. The doctor bills Medicare instead and accepts the Medicare benefit as full payment. You may be asked to sign a form or press OK on the EFTPOS terminal to assign the benefit.
If you have more than one service in a visit, not every service may be bulk billed, and not every health professional bulk bills. It is always worth checking when you make the appointment.
Who receives bulk billing in Point Cook at Juniper
Our fees page lists the groups who are bulk billed with all the doctors:
- Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) card holders
- Pensioners over 65
- Childhood and adult immunisations
- GP care plans
Other consultation types may have an out-of-pocket fee. Practitioners set their own fees and billing differs slightly between doctors, so check each doctor’s profile on our doctors page before booking.
Standard consultation fees
For consultations outside the groups above, the fees page lists these totals as a guide:
- Standard consultation (under 20 minutes): $85, with a Medicare rebate of $45.05, leaving $39.95 out of pocket
- Long consultation (20 to 40 minutes): $145
- Extra-long consultation (over 40 minutes): $195
- Consultation over 1 hour: $250
A $30 fee applies for late cancellations and missed appointments.
Paying on the day and getting your rebate
Fees are paid on the day by card or EFTPOS, and no cash is kept on the premises. The clinic uses a Tyro terminal, which lets the Medicare rebate go back to your card on the spot, so you are only out of pocket for the gap rather than waiting for a claim.
If you are not registered with Medicare
A standard consultation for patients not registered with Medicare is $70, paid on the day by EFTPOS. According to the Department of Health, a practice may not be able to bulk bill when Medicare eligibility cannot be confirmed or there is no Medicare card number, for example a newborn or a newly arrived migrant. If you were eligible at the time, you can usually claim later through the usual Medicare process.
The November 2025 bulk billing changes
From 1 November 2025, bulk billing incentives, the extra Medicare payments a GP receives for bulk billing, were expanded to every Medicare-eligible patient. Before that they applied only to children under 16 and concession card holders. A new Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program also pays extra to practices that bulk bill all eligible patients. Those practices display Medicare Bulk Billing Practice signage and are listed as “bulk billing only” on healthdirect.
These changes make bulk billing more attractive for GPs, but they do not require any clinic to bulk bill everyone. At Juniper, the groups listed above are the ones bulk billed.
Common questions
Do I need to register with MyMedicare to be bulk billed?
No. The Department of Health states patients do not need MyMedicare registration to receive a bulk billed service. You can still choose to register with the clinic through MyMedicare separately.
I have a concession card but am under 65. Will I be bulk billed?
A concession card on its own is not one of the groups on our list, though your visit is bulk billed if it is an immunisation or a GP care plan. For other visits, check the doctor’s billing on their profile or ask reception when you book.
How much does a phone consultation cost?
Phone consultations are available. Ask reception for booking information and fees, as they are not on the standard consultation list.
