A Medical Centre for Mambourin Residents
If you have recently moved to Mambourin, working out where to see a doctor is one of the jobs on the list. Juniper Avenue is a medical centre for Mambourin residents who are willing to drive about 18 km east to Point Cook. We have no clinic, rooms or doctor based in Mambourin itself.
A suburb still taking shape
When the 2021 Census was taken, Mambourin had just 315 residents in 113 private dwellings, according to ABS QuickStats. The median age was 30, one in ten residents was under five, and 61.1% of families were couples with children.
Those numbers capture the area at an early point in its development, so treat them as a snapshot. What they do suggest is a community of young households, where children’s vaccinations and family check-ups come up often.
A medical centre for Mambourin, 18 km away
From the residential streets around Black Forest Road, most routes use Ison Road to join the Princes Freeway towards Melbourne, leave at the Sneydes Road exit and continue along Boardwalk Boulevard. That is about 18 km by road. You park behind the building, coming in off Dunnings Road.
Be realistic about distance. If you expect to need a doctor every week, a practice closer to home may suit you better, and that is a fair choice.
Vaccines for babies and toddlers
The National Immunisation Program provides routine vaccines free for children up to 4 years, with visits at 2, 4 and 6 months, 12 and 18 months, and 4 years. A yearly flu vaccine is also free through the program from 6 months to under 5 years.
Every Juniper doctor bulk bills childhood immunisations. More detail sits on our child immunisation page. If your child had vaccines with another clinic, bring that history along so the GP can see what is due next.
Settling in with one practice
After your second in-person visit with us inside a two-year window, you can choose to register through MyMedicare, which links you to Juniper as your usual practice. It is voluntary and free, and parents and children can be registered at the same practice when one of them is eligible.
Planning your first appointment
Book online through HealthEngine or call (03) 9395 5566. Evening appointments run until 8:00pm on weekdays, and the clinic is open from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays, which can suit families fitting an 18 km drive around work and childcare. Bring your Medicare card, your child’s immunisation history and any letters from previous doctors. Dorevitch Pathology collects on site on weekday mornings and early afternoons and on Saturday mornings, so a blood test can often be done straight after the visit rather than on a second trip. If plans change, let reception know early: a $30 fee applies for late cancellations and missed appointments.
Before you make the trip
Is there a Juniper clinic in Mambourin?
No. Juniper runs a single clinic, at 2 Juniper Ave in Point Cook, and phone consultations are the one option that does not involve the drive.
Will I have to pay for a consultation?
It depends on who you are and why you visit. Veterans with a DVA card, pensioners aged over 65, childhood and adult immunisations and GP care plans are bulk billed; for anything else each doctor sets a fee that may leave a gap, so check the fees page first.
Who do I call when the clinic is closed?
The after-hours service is 13 SICK, on 13 7425. Emergencies always go to 000.
