Medical Centre Options for Manor Lakes Families

Manor Lakes became a suburb in its own right in March 2016, after years as part of Wyndham Vale, and it is home to a great many young families. If you are comparing medical centre options for Manor Lakes, Juniper Avenue Medical Centre in Point Cook is about 17 km east, mostly on Heaths Road and the Princes Freeway.

We do not have a clinic in Manor Lakes. Families travel to us for children’s health, vaccinations and everyday GP care for the adults in the house.

What a medical centre for Manor Lakes families needs to cover

Wyndham City’s suburb profile records that Manor Lakes was gazetted in March 2016 following community consultation, and places it towards the west of the municipality. The 2021 Census on ABS QuickStats counted 12,675 residents with a median age of 31.

  • More than one in five residents was under 10 years old
  • 64% of families were couples with children, against 45.5% across Victoria
  • 26% of residents were born in India, the most common birthplace after Australia

That age mix is why child health takes up so much of a GP’s time with Manor Lakes families.

Getting to Juniper from Manor Lakes Boulevard

A typical route runs from Manor Lakes Boulevard onto Ballan Road, then east along Heaths Road to the Princes Freeway. Take the Forsyth Road exit and follow Boardwalk Boulevard to the clinic, roughly 17 km in total by road.

Park at the rear, using the Dunnings Road entrance. Saturday and Sunday hours, 9:00am to 5:00pm, help when weekdays are full of school and work.

From first jabs to school starters

Australia’s childhood schedule spaces free vaccines through the early years:

  • 2, 4 and 6 months: diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, hepatitis B, polio and Hib, plus rotavirus and pneumococcal at the first two
  • 12 months: meningococcal ACWY, measles, mumps and rubella, and pneumococcal
  • 18 months: Hib, measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox, and diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough
  • 4 years: diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and polio

Every childhood immunisation is bulk billed, whichever doctor you see. Our child immunisation page explains the visit itself.

When a child is unwell

Fevers, rashes, ear pain and coughs are common reasons Manor Lakes parents book. Our GPs provide paediatric care and can refer on to a specialist when that is needed. Asthma was reported by 7.1% of Manor Lakes residents in 2021, and our asthma management page covers reviews for children and adults.

If your child is struggling to breathe, is floppy or hard to wake, or has a seizure, call 000 instead of driving to a clinic.

Paying for family visits

Juniper is a mixed billing practice. Besides immunisations, we bulk bill GP care plans and patients who are DVA card holders or pensioners over 65. Anything else may leave you with a gap, which varies slightly between doctors. Payment happens at the counter on the day, and Tyro returns the Medicare rebate to your card there and then. See the fees page for details.

When a follow-up does not need an examination, ask reception about a phone consultation and its fee, which can spare you the drive with tired children in the back seat.

Manor Lakes parents often ask

What if my child gets sick on a Sunday?

We are open 9:00am to 5:00pm on weekends. Outside those hours, phone 13 SICK (13 7425), or 000 if it is an emergency.

Can I book my child’s appointment online?

Yes, you can book online through HealthEngine for any family member, or phone (03) 9395 5566.

What should we bring to the first appointment?

Bring Medicare cards for everyone being seen and any concession or DVA card, since these affect how the visit is billed.
