Your Local Point Cook Medical Centre

Juniper Avenue Medical Centre is a Point Cook medical centre at 2 Juniper Ave, just off Dunnings Road. For people who live here, it is the local practice: no freeway, no long drive, and a GP and nurse team you can keep seeing over the years.

The clinic is open seven days, including weeknights until 8:00pm, so an appointment can fit around school runs and work.

Who lives in Point Cook

The ABS QuickStats for the 2021 Census counted 66,781 people in Point Cook, with a median age of 33. Couples with children made up 63.4% of families, compared with 45.5% across Victoria. Children under 10 were 18.9% of residents, well above the state figure of 12.0%.

Only 44.3% of residents spoke just English at home, against 67.2% across Victoria. Mandarin (8.9%), Hindi (6.4%) and Punjabi (3.0%) were the most common other languages.

Care shaped by a young, family suburb

With so many young children nearby, family general practice is a large part of what a local clinic does. Childhood vaccines follow the National Immunisation Program schedule and are bulk billed; our child immunisation page has the details. Paediatric care covers newborn checks, school health assessments, sick visits and developmental screening.

For parents-to-be, pregnancy care starts with confirming the pregnancy, estimating the due date and arranging the tests that follow.

Long-term conditions, closer to home

The Census also asked about long-term health conditions. In Point Cook, 5.8% of residents reported asthma, 4.8% a mental health condition such as depression or anxiety, and 3.7% diabetes. Each needs regular reviews, which are easier when the clinic is a short trip away.

If English is not your first language

Many patients prefer to talk about their health in their own language. Our practice can book an onsite interpreter before your appointment, or arrange a telephone interpreter. Let reception know when you book, so it can be organised before you arrive.

What you can do in one visit

Dorevitch Pathology has a collection room inside the clinic. Its hours are shorter than ours: 8:00am to 3:00pm on weekdays, and 9:00am to midday on Saturday. See our pathology page for what to bring.

If a follow-up can be done without an examination, a phone consultation may save you the trip. Clinic patients who are too unwell to come in can ask about a home visit.

Finding the clinic

The clinic’s own car park is behind the building, and you drive in from Dunnings Road, so there is no need to hunt for a spot on the street. If you live in Sanctuary Lakes, which is part of Point Cook, our page for that area has the route.

Booking at our Point Cook medical centre

Appointments can be made online through HealthEngine, day or night, or by phoning reception on (03) 9395 5566. We open 8:00am to 8:00pm on weekdays, and 9:00am to 5:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Outside those hours, 13 SICK (13 7425) arranges after-hours home visits and phone consultations. In an emergency, call 000. Our fees page lists consultation costs and the cancellation policy.

Point Cook patients ask

Is the clinic bulk billing?

Some visits are. Juniper uses mixed billing: vaccines, GP care plans, DVA card holders and pensioners aged over 65 are bulk billed, and other consultations may have a gap. Current prices are on our fees page.

Can I have a blood test after my appointment?

Usually, yes, while the Dorevitch collection room is open. If your test needs fasting, a morning appointment makes it easier.

How do I make Juniper my regular practice?

Register with MyMedicare. According to the Department of Health, two face-to-face visits with the same practice in the past 24 months usually make you eligible. How to register is set out on our MyMedicare page.
